Curriculum

The Al Faris International curriculum from Pre-School through Grade 12 is designed to engage and excite students about the process of learning and teach them to be life-long learners and effective contributors to a global community.  Students apply previously learned concepts and skills in different ways as well as acquire new material in their educational journey.  Our emphasis is always on active engagement which fosters student independence, creativity, inquiry and critical thinking.

We are committed to offering our students a unique learning environment that places them first and foremost. Your child will encounter strong role models and enjoy numerous opportunities to develop leadership skills. We take pride in focusing on the strengths of students while trying to improve their weaknesses in a nurturing and challenging environment.

Al Faris International School is a fully certified IB World School offering the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP) and the Diploma Program (DP).  Schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education which prepares students for success in rigorous programs of higher education and to be effective global citizens.

High school students have the choice to pursue a full IB Diploma, an IB Course Certificate or to continue with course offerings which prepare them for the SAT exam.   All students PreK-Grade 10 will be automatically enrolled in the PYP and MYP programs, respectively.

Our primary program incorporates the Daily 5 Literacy Program which fosters independent learning and develops skills in reading, writing and vocabulary and allows the teacher to work closely with the students at their individual learning level. We recognize the importance of developing reading skills and a love for reading in the early years and offer online libraries with a wealth of resources such as Tumblebooks and Big Universe.  We also incorporate the renowned Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop into our curriculum.  Mini lessons give the skills needed for kids to take their life experiences and develop them, step by step into a story.

Our K-12 program is also certified by AdvancEd, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of PreK-12 schools and school systems to ensure a standard of quality and assist in school improvements.  They currently partner with 32,000 schools and school systems worldwide.

Our curriculum is based on the U.S. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Math, English and Social Studies, and NGSS for Sciences.  These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. The standards were created to ensure that all students graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college, career, and life, regardless of where they live.

We currently provide McGraw Hill textbooks to meet these standards, which includes the Reading Wonders Series.  Reading Wonders is designed for all learners – both striving and struggling. In addition it provides excellent teacher support by providing all core lessons in one place with detailed instructional guidance.

With McGraw Hill ConnectEd, our students have the opportunity to read their English selections, solve math problems and prepare their science lessons digitally.  They can also make use of online resources and short quizzes and even submit their homework online. Moreover, ConnectEd is intended to lighten the load of our students’ school bags by enabling them to leave the books at school and use their tablets or iPads at home.  Passwords and usernames are distributed to all students who pay for the ConnectEd.
